I've always told myself I'm going to start a blog and document what happens in my life so that when I'm sad or upset I can go back and look at the good times.
When something bad is going on in your life I think it's hard to tell yourself "hey, this too shall pass." A reminder that fun times have been had, and will happen again could be just the thing you need to pick yourself back up and move on with your life.
So, in any case. Here I go.
My name is Caitie. I'm 22 years old and live in a tiny town on the east coast of Florida. Lived here my whole life, and I keep debating about moving. It may not be an exciting town, but it's very comfortable and where most of my family is located.
I love theatre. It's sort of an obsession. I have been volunteering as a techie at our local community theatre for three years now. I like being able to watch a show go from auditions all the way to opening night. I find it fascinating. To be able to watch something go from words on a page to a finished project. Getting to witness all the bumps along the way as well as all the laughs. There is just something special about it. Above all else getting to be creative. To submit your ideas on how to make something work, or make something work better. Going thrift shopping to find props. Designing lights. I love every part of it.
I've seen 13 shows on Broadway. It is my absolute favorite thing to do in the world. Getting on an Amtrak train in DeLand. Watching the entire east coast go by on the 22 hour trip to New Jersey. People think I'm nuts for taking a train trip that long when you can make the same journey by plane in 3 hours. I think it's all part of the experience. You meet fun people, see cute little towns, what's wrong with that? Then the excitement taking the NJ Transit train over to the City. Knowing your about to walk up into New York City. There is no greater high then that in my book.
My first Broadway show was RENT when I was 18. After that I was done for. I had see local productions and what not, but seeing something on that grand of a scale, with people that were so talented, and seeing something that WASN'T a happy go lucky story was just awesome. Everything I had seen locally were musicals such as Annie, Snow White, Wizard of Oz etc. But to see a show that was so raw, and dealt with so many issues just totally sucked me in.
In the four years following this, and the many trips to Jersey to visit family and go into the city, I ended up seeing 12 more Broadway shows. I saw Rent a second time, Wicked, Spamalot, Spring Awakening three times, Young Frankenstein, Avenue Q, West Side Story, Shrek, Hair, and In The Heights. The only one I didn't love was West Side Story. Except for Karen Olivio the show was shit. :( I'm sure I'll go into my love of the others shows at some other point.
So yea. Theatre and anything artsy pretty much makes up who I am. A lot of my posts will probably be theatre related, but hey, it's my blog :)
